Top Tips: Choosing a Studio or a One-Bedroom Apartment

Friday, June 11th, 2010

If you’re planning to rent an apartment alone, you may be trying to decide whether you want to live in a studio or a one-bedroom apartment. Both types of apartments are very popular for single renters and each one has its own advantages.

Here’s how to decide whether a studio or a one-bedroom apartment is the best solution for you.

Why Rent a Studio?
People who rent a studio apartment enjoy paying less rent each month which translates to significant savings year after year. The simple floor plan of a studio makes it comparatively easy to achieve the feeling of being “settled in.” Smaller studios – like an Alcove type studio offered by Studio Meuble Montreal – are ideal for renters who don’t have many belongings that they need to display or keep handy in their apartment.

Why Rent a Suite or  a One-Bedroom Apartment?
One-bedroom apartments – like a Sweet Comfort type apartment offered by Studio Meuble Montreal – attract renters who desire more space and multiple rooms in their apartment. Having a separate bedroom is good for renters who like to do much entertaining (your bed and related effects are out of the way and out of sight) or who have guests spend the night (they can sleep with greater privacy on the sofa in the other room). Also, if you telecommute, you may prefer to spend the workday in a different room than the one in which you sleep each night, for a change of scenery.

Decide if You Need the Upgrade
Deciding between renting a one-bedroom apartment or a studio apartment boils down to thinking of a one-bedroom apartment as an upgrade (since it costs more), and deciding whether the upgrade is worth it to you. As you read above, one-bedroom apartments offer certain benefits in return for the higher rent, but these benefits aren’t valuable to every renter.

Also, some renters who can afford a one-bedroom apartment decide they would prefer, or at least wouldn’t mind, living in a studio. If this is your situation, consider hunting for a larger studio – like a Junior Suite type studio offered by Studio Meuble Montreal – for your rental. For example, look for a studio that offers excellent views of your city or a nearby park or lake, or in a building that offers more amenities.

17th Edition: Montreal Mondial de la Biere

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Montreal’s first great festival of the summer, the Mondial de la bière is a unique tasting event dedicated to the reinstatement of beer’s noble status. Founded in 1994, the Mondial de la bière is considered to be a gateway to the Québec and foreign beer industry.

The professional MBeer segment, which began in 2005 with the MBeerconference, is enriched by the visit of international beer celebrities who contribute to its reputation. The MBeer Contest and the MBeer school of beerology, created in 1996, have also helped develop Quebec’s expertise in this domain.

An unavoidable event for beer amateurs, the Mondial de la bière attracts over 80,000 people who attend the event in search of high quality products, which many are exclusive to the Festival. To please festival goers, the Mondial de la bière’s program also includes a very elaborate educational segment. Whether it’s meeting with the brewers, through the Public Beer Contest or the Cheese and Beer workshops, amateurs are well equipped to cultivate their minds, educate their palate and quench their thirst with delectable discoveries.

Through the years, the event has become the most important festival of international beers in America and its reputation now travels over to many countries. The European version of the Montreal event, the Mondial de la bière of Strasbourg, inaugurated its first edition between October 16th and 18th of 2009 and intends to be Europe’s leading brewing event.
