Making the Rounds of Louis-François Marcotte’s Restaurants

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

If you’ve spent any time in Montreal, you have probably seen Louis-François Marcotte in the windows of Montreal bookstores. The author of five cookbooks also has his own T.V. show on the Canal-Vie channel : Cuisinez comme Louis (Cooking like Louis). A heartbreaker whom radio hosts take pleasure in imitating, the chef is also the proud owner of well-frequented restaurants. Here is a brief summary of them.

Simpléchic : Restaurant and Catering Service

It all began at Simpléchic, in 2003, when the young 19-year-old started a catering business in Verdun, on Wellington Street. This was a risky venture since the area had not yet experienced its revitalization. Nonetheless, his catering business took off, which spawned a restaurant of the same name and the novice chef was now a master chef ! Simpléchic  offers a reputable selection of gourmet delights. It is also the name to remember for catering services sure to please at the office!

Le local

In 2008, Louis-François Marcotte opens another restaurant, this time in the heart of Old Montreal. Perfect for a glamorous evening, Le local boasts an exhilarating menu in a friendly atmosphere. We are warmly greeted with vintage decor in which brick is a prominent feature and yet still conveys a distinctly modern feel. A beautiful evening in a restaurant where, no sooner do you leave, than you long to return…

Le hangar

Le hangar had its beginnings in the Griffintown district on Wellington, just like its predecessor, in 2010. The food is simple and unpretentious, and a diversified menu offers something for all tastes. This 80-seat restaurant has two kitchens: that of the restaurant and that of the Simpléchic catering service, which moved to the new locale.

All that remains to do is choose according to your tastes and select the location of your Studio Meublé dwelling! If you have to leave Montreal without having had the chance to enjoy one of the famous chef’s restaurants, there is still time to do so at the Montréal-Trudeau Airport. Prior to returning home, you can savour some fine wine at laCabine M, a restaurant and wine bar that is Chef Louis’ latest venture! Arrange to meet up in the international departures zone, between doors 51 and 52!
