Other Ways to Get Around in Montreal!

Now that you know a little more about the Montreal public transit system, discover two other interesting ways to make your way around the metropolis.

Self-serve Cars

Since 1994, Communauto has afforded its members access to a fleet of nearly 1200 cars for use according to their needs. Members can rent cars, completely by self-service, for an hour, a day or even longer. Simply reserve a car online (free of charge) or by phone (65 ¢ per call, $1.30 in the evenings) and then pick up the car at the pre-selected station. The car must be returned at the prearranged time and location. An invoice is then given to the user once the cost is calculated according to the package rate selected, the duration of rental and the number of kilometres traveled. Please note that you need a membership to obtain the service.

Self-serve Bicycles

If you choose to visit the city between April and November, cycling is both an enjoyable and economical alternative. Launched on May 12, 2009, the Bixi service is a self-serve system now offering 5050 bicycles, distributed in 405 stations throughout the city. Cycling is becoming more and more popular as a means for urban transportation as it is a whole new way to discover the city. Be sure to subscribe first if you want to use this service.

Take the time to take a look at different packages offered on the Internet. You will find a definite benefit to combining public transit with these two self-serve systems!
